I think I broke my toe.

No pics because gross. But I was walking across my mom’s living room floor yesterday, and got distracted, and my toe went right into the glass TV stand. It wasn’t the corner of it, but the flat part along the bottom of the stand.

The impact was hard enough to break my toe open and make it bleed, and it didn’t take long for it to turn black, blue, purple, and become swollen. It’s the middle toe on my right foot, and I can’t really move it too well on my own, but I can at least walk on it. Surprisingly, the nail is fine, but the rest of it, it throbbed for hours and hours. Pain’s not as bad this morning, but still there.

I don’t think my health insurance includes toe truck coverage, unfortunately.

Keep it clean with antiseptic and tape it up. Most broken toes don’t need medical intervention unless badly smashed up.

Source: am extremely clumsy and have broken several toes.

You can go to a doctor to have it checked but all they will do is put it in a splint. There’s not much you can do for broken fingers and toes, it’s not like they will put it in a cast.

I’m not sure, but I don’t think people really do anything with broken toes except wrap them up.

I wouldn’t take any chance, amputate it before it gets infected with flesh eating bacteria.

Broke the “ring” toe on my right foot while tubing down a river once. Slammed my foot into a nice big rock below the surface. It turned black and blue and purple and hurt for a few days but, then it was fine. Those bones heal pretty fast.

Oh, I know. I’ve just got it bandaged and covered.

That’s what I did. I can still walk and drive, so it’s not too bad.

Ouch. That sounds painful. I haven’t had a broken bone in 24 years now, I guess the streak had to end sometime.

I’ve already got an Aron Ralston style amputation device at the ready!

Should be okay in a week or two then. The pain and swelling only stays for about that long, a bit longer for it to fully heal.
